Global use of LED lighting to help reduce the share of power consumption lighting to 8%

Philips Lighting said that if the world switches to LED lighting, the share of lighting in power consumption will drop from 15% to 8%.

According to relevant statistics, greenhouse gases generated by lighting account for about 5% of the global total, while lighting accounts for 15% of global electricity consumption. The electricity used exceeds the total output of all nuclear power plants in the world, and will rise sharply by 2030. To 50%, it is imperative to develop green lighting.

As a "power-hungry household", street lamps currently have about 300 million baht in the world, but only 1/10 have been upgraded. “If all the street lamps in China are replaced with LED lights, the annual electricity savings will be equivalent to the annual power generation of the three Three Gorges power stations,” said Xu Bin, general manager of Op Lighting.

Philips Lighting has called for 100% LED streetlights to be used in all cities around the world by 2025.

Of course, the amount of electricity saved by replacing existing street lights with LED street lights is not the greatest potential. If the LED street light adopts the intelligent control system, it can exert greater energy saving effect. Currently, only 1/15 of the world's 300 million street lamps are connected to intelligent systems to collect data.

In the streetlight intelligent control system, the street light can be turned off when the sensor is not needed to save energy, and the power quality is improved in other ways. At the same time, the streetlights can be made more valuable through intelligent systems.

For example, the city of Los Angeles has a large-scale network of smart connected street lights, and Philips Lighting has deployed new IoT technologies and functions to collect and analyze data through sensors and software equipped with street lights. The results of the analysis will help improve the transparency of urban operations and promote the development of new smart city applications.

In addition, the newly introduced acoustic sensor and environmental noise monitoring sensor can detect vehicle collision events and provide timely information to the city emergency communication system to help the police, fire and emergency departments shorten response time and rescue patients early. Currently, there are more than 200,000 street lights in the city of Los Angeles, which provide this service to citizens on urban roads, highways, tunnels and sidewalks.
