The International Fiber Optic Interconnection Network Forum (OIF) will handle different transport technologies for carrier-class networks in the 4th Global Interoperability Showcase, including OTN, PBB-TE, T-MPLS/MPLS-TP and SONET/SDH, and multi-network Domain service recovery. Seven of the world's largest telecommunications companies have begun a three-month comprehensive test of interoperability data and control plane technology, which supports carrier-grade broadband services that are dynamically delivered end-to-end. Telecommunications sites are connected via virtual connections to form a global test network topology that will emphasize OIF's control platform mechanism, User Network Interface (UNI) 2.0 and associated external network-to-network interface (E-NNI) 2.0 signaling. The EVPL control platform is an important technological advancement in providing very simple bandwidth channels. The control platform now knows how individual customer traffic is mapped in the Ethernet signal and controls the transmission resources to meet these service requirements. Service platform-based service recovery is being tested to restore service after a data platform failure. Recovery is a critical step in implementing a mesh network topology that provides high availability without 100% resource redundancy.
