Texas Instruments Stereo Space Array IC brings more realistic audio to smartphones and tablets

Texas Instruments (TI) today announced the introduction of an integrated circuit (IC) that significantly broadens the soundstage of smartphones and tablets, providing consumers with an immersive audio experience. The Stereo Space Array IC and its companion software tools help mobile device designers overcome speaker sound field limitations and create 3D stereo sound effects to create a theater-like listening experience. The LM48903 Stereo Class D Space Array is a new addition to the innovative space audio IC family that meets the needs of space-constrained applications such as smartphones and ultra-thin TVs.

Complete audio solution: The IC is highly integrated with a spatial processing DSP, two Class D amplifiers, an 18-bit stereo analog-to-digital converter (ADC), a phase-locked loop (PLL), and I2S and I2C interfaces;

Simple sound programming: Easy-to-use software tools accelerate development, customers don't need algorithm adjustments and internal DSP expert support;

Simulation sound effect: Breaking the system size limit, providing better sound field effects than similar products, and achieving product differentiation;

Integrated 2 W speaker driver: Two Class D speaker drivers with total harmonic distortion and noise (THD+N) reduced to less than 1%, providing 2 W of continuous output power per channel with a 4 Ω load, simplifying system design and reducing Bill of materials;

The LM48903's built-in web-based speaker array design tool includes an easy-to-use coefficient generator that creates unique spatial audio coefficients in a few simple steps, including Android drivers and graphical user interface evaluation Module.

The LM48903 is available now in a 30-bump, 2.7 mm x 3.2 mm micro SMD package.
