Three LED drivers can drive up to 24 500mA LEDs
Linear Technology introduces the H-grade version of the LT3496. The LT3496 is a 2MHz DC/DC converter designed to operate as a three-channel constant current LED driver. The LT3496 features three independent driver channels with a 700mA, 45V internal switch that operates in buck, boost, buck-boost mode.

Each of the three channels of the device can drive up to eight 500mA LEDs in series, enabling it to drive up to 24 500mA LEDs with up to 96% efficiency. The Class H version has a junction temperature of up to 150 °C compared to a maximum junction temperature of 125 °C for the E and I versions. All electrical performance specifications are the same for the E, I, and H versions. Class H devices are tested to ensure a maximum junction temperature of 150 °C. They are ideal for automotive and industrial applications that are subject to high ambient temperatures.
The LT3496 senses the output current on the high side of the LED for buck, buck-boost or boost configuration. Each channel is controlled by a separate True Color PWMTM signal, allowing each channel to be individually dimmed with a dimming ratio of up to 3,000:1. The fixed frequency, current mode architecture ensures stable operation over a wide range of supply and output voltages (3-40V). The frequency adjustment pin allows the user to set the frequency between 330kHz and 2.1MHz to optimize efficiency while minimizing external component size. The LT3496's thermally enhanced 4x5mm QFN package provides a highly compact solution footprint for 50W LED applications.
