Analysis: How is the United States energy efficient lighting?
The best source of illumination is sunlight. Sunlight is free, does not require electricity, and does not cause pollution. The sun provides light in a visible spectrum that has been familiar to people for thousands of years. In an office building, if natural light is introduced into the building during design, employees will be better and more efficient, and sickness will be reduced. In the hospital, patients living near the window recover faster. Some windows now have the option of spectroscopy to provide daylight while maintaining comfort. There are innovative technologies such as side windows, skylights, glazing panels and light pipes that bring daylight into the interior of the building. Incandescent lamps are best used in places that are infrequently used or that are exposed for a short period of time, such as a guest's room, a tea stove room, or a stairway that is temporarily opened for safety. Compressed fluorescent lamp
Most hotels use compact fluorescent lights. The hotel usually pays attention to the cost of lighting. Of course, they won't let the guest not even read the book. Compressed fluorescent light is the answer: 25 watt fluorescent light is as bright as a 100 watt incandescent lamp. Marriott Hotels Group has saved millions of dollars in electricity bills because of the switch.
Compressed fluorescent lamps last 10 times longer than standard incandescent lamps, and the energy required to emit the same brightness is only a quarter of that of incandescent lamps. Today's fluorescent lights are no longer the bulky guys who can't fit into the common lamp holders. They come in a variety of shapes - short tubes, rings, rings and spirals, and can be used with most lamp holders. Although compact fluorescent lamps are much more expensive than incandescent lamps at the time of initial purchase, in the long run, the cost of using incandescent lamps is twice as expensive as with fluorescent lamps.
This account is simple to calculate. For example, if you spend $20 to buy a best-quality compact fluorescent lamp (this is the full price of retail, it can be about half cheaper in a warehouse store). Standard incandescent lamps with the same brightness of 100 degrees have a price of $0.50 and a lifespan of up to 1000 hours. To achieve 10,000 hours of lighting, you need 10 such incandescent bulbs for $5. It still seems to be much cheaper than using a compact fluorescent lamp, but you haven't counted the cost of energy. At present, the average US electricity price is 8.4 cents per kWh. The electricity fee for the 100-watt incandescent lamp to illuminate 10,000 hours is $84. Plus $5 for 10 bulbs, the total cost is $89. The 25-watt compact fluorescent lamp illuminates 10,000 hours of electricity plus $20 for a total of $41. Incandescent lamps cost twice as much as fluorescent lamps.
Early compression fluorescent lamps with magnetic ballasts sometimes caused the lights to flicker, but new fluorescent lamps have completely solved this problem. The light from all fluorescent lights is a bit blue, and some people think it makes people feel cold and glare. But now, with phosphorus treatment, the light can be turned into a warm color.
It is estimated that about three bulbs in each American household are illuminated for more than five hours a day. If each of these three bulbs is replaced with a compact fluorescent lamp, CO2 emissions can be reduced by 24 million tons per day. If each family replaces only the most commonly used bulbs with compact fluorescent lamps, the annual electricity consumption in the United States can be reduced by 32 billion kWh.
Green lighting is a voluntary project sponsored by the US Environmental Protection Agency. It encourages companies to sign agreements to cost-effectively retrofit luminaires. Participants can significantly reduce the cost of lighting while maintaining the quality of the lighting. The annual return on investment for this purpose is as high as 30% or more. If all non-domestic lighting in the United States meets green lighting standards, the total electricity use in the country can be reduced by 12%.
