Is no longer a local exclusive BenQ home projector W1050 evaluation

In the past, the projector was considered as a plaything for audiophiles, and although the projection screen was large, the price was high, installation was troublesome, and there was a certain requirement for the viewing environment. Today, with the advancement of technology, the decrease in the price of projectors, coupled with strong demand for large screens, projectors have begun to enter the homes of ordinary people. As a vanguard, entry-level home projectors play an important role.

Not long ago, we reviewed BenQ's new home projector, the W1120 priced at 5,999 yuan. Its performance in color is a model for home entry models. Now, the same positioning home entry, but the cheaper BenQ W1050 projector came to the YORK evaluation room, its performance? Can you continue the level on the W1120?

Smaller and lighter home "white"

Unlike the W1120's silver and white, the BenQ W1050 is more simple and pure white. At the same time, the 332.4 x 99 x 241.3 mm volume, 2.56 Kg weight is lighter than the W1120, the same is the same rounded body design and BenQ family of Facebook. In general, the BenQ W1050 is like a "white" and integrates unobtrusively into your home environment.

BenQ W1050

BenQ W1120

In terms of configuration, the BenQ W1050 has 1080P (1920x1080) physical resolution, 2200 lumens brightness, 15000:1 contrast ratio, greater than 96% Rec.709 color gamut standard, and core parameters consistent with the W1120.

On the lens side, the throw ratio is 1.37-1.64, which is slightly larger than the W1120. Therefore, the 100-inch screen is also projected. The BenQ W1050 needs a distance of 3 meters, while the W1120 only requires 2.5 meters. Users with space requirements should pay attention to this.

The BenQ W1050 also supports the zoom function, which is to adjust the zoom knob on the lens, can change the screen size. The zoom ratio is 1.2:1, which is not much different from the 1.3:1 of the W1120. In addition, the W1050 does not support the side-shooting function, and keystone correction only supports the vertical direction +/- 40° range. In terms of installation flexibility, it is not as free and casual as the W1120.

Control buttons are also concentrated on the top of the fuselage, including the power button, menu, direction, return, function and layout are basically the same as the W1120, more ECO BLANK function keys, you can easily enable energy-saving mode.

The air inlet and outlet are also set on both sides, and the cooling grille is also a very familiar design.

By the way, due to the lack of shading treatment, there will be a bright light on the back side of the projector, which will have a little effect under the all-black viewing environment.

For interfaces, one VGA (D-Sub) interface, two HDMI interfaces, one audio input interface, one audio output interface, one USB (Type mini B) interface, and one RS232 interface.

The remote control is really easy to use, no need to open the menu interface, most of the functions such as switching the display mode, brightness adjustment, trapezoidal correction, etc. can be reached with a key.

Do not lose color tuning in W1120

Many people are more concerned with the difference between the quality of the BenQ W1050 and the W1120. First of all, the conclusion is that in terms of the prototype of the experience, the W1120 will be slightly rich, and there will be almost no difference.

If you don't say it, it's hard to tell which real shot proof is. The above group, the picture shows the W1120 real shot proofs, the bottom picture is BenQ W1050, we can see, W1120 in the leaves of the green, a little more concentrated on the red snack.

This group of night portraits, the picture shows the W1120, the picture below is W1050, we can see that there is only a slight difference in color temperature, clarity, dark details of the reduction are more ideal.

As mentioned in the evaluation of the W1120, the stable color performance of the BenQ projector is inseparable from the 6-segment 6x speed color wheel and the CinematicColor color adjustment technology, and it has maintained a good continuity between different products. The BenQ W1050 also gave us the expected color performance.

Super Hivi Cast test

We used the Super Hivi Cast Blu-ray test disc to conduct more detailed tests on the W1050's dynamic lines, color transitions, 3D video, and other items, to see the potential strength of this entry-level product.

In the black background, BenQ W1050's dynamic clear line test (all 1080P mode), the line shows the edge of the picture clearly, the surrounding circular smooth without jaggies, the inner circle without ghosting, slashed line clear. Near-screen image proofs can be seen that the four lines in the circle do not overlap and the bars are clear. This is closely related to its use of DLP chips and technology.

Vivid TV mode

Cinema mode

When testing the contrast, it was found that the difference between the different display modes is relatively large. Under the default Vivid TV, the white clothes of the characters are almost fused with the white background and are difficult to distinguish; when tuned into the Cinema mode, the characters and the background get a good Separation, this contrast is the most appropriate. So, Vivid TV mode gets a good eye-catching look with high brightness and color saturation, but in Cinema mode, although the screen brightness is reduced, the color and contrast are more accurate.

Vivid TV mode

In Cinema mode

In Cinema mode, the color reproduction is really accurate and is very close to the actual object. This is also the reason why I personally admire the Cinema model. It's an eye-catching, eye-popping, cinematic feeling.

In addition, W1050 also supports 3D technology, playing 3D video will automatically identify. With active shutter 3D glasses, you can get better immersion.

Up to 1080P, 60Hz video output.

In terms of actual audio and video experience, visual effects needless to say, but sound quality, because only equipped with a 2W power speaker (W1120 is a 5W 10W), so the performance is unsatisfactory. If you look at the movie "Speed and Passion", it's better to pick up an external stereo.

Like the W1120, the BenQ W1050 has no built-in intelligence. Some of the convenience has been lost, but TV boxes are now cheap, and hundreds of dollars can get a bunch of video resources. There is no smart module that allows the projector to concentrate on doing its job, but also saves a certain amount of cost, and it does not affect me personally.

Low power consumption, long life, can save more money

The BenQ W1050's power rating marked by the official website is 252W, and we have repeatedly measured the result at 241.5W; while the W1120's nominal power is 353W, and the measured value is about 285W. With the brightness of 2200 lumens kept unchanged, the measured power of the W1050 is lower than that of the W1120, and the energy-saving performance is satisfactory.

The official nominal lamp life is 4500/6000/10000 hours in the normal/economic/intelligent power saving mode, and the service life in the smart power saving mode is very considerable. It is very rare to know that the average light bulb function can be used for about 7000 hours.

In terms of noise, the noise figure of the BenQ W1050 measured at a distance of half a meter from the projector in a room with an ambient noise of 30 dB is about 39.4 dB, which is slightly higher than the 36 dB of the W1120. However, this noise is generated when the speaker is turned on during viewing. Basically negligible, no effect.

In terms of heat, after playing a 1080P video for one and a half hours, the body temperature is equivalent to that of the W1120, which is about 24°C, which is basically room temperature. The inlet temperature is lower, only about 21 °C.

The heat is mainly concentrated in the air outlet, where the temperature of the light source has soared to 50°C, and the hot air blowing will feel hot. Perhaps because of the engineering machine, I feel that this BenQ W1050 has more heat than the W1120.

Conclusion

1080P resolution, 2200 lumens high brightness, 15000:1 contrast, the maximum can be cast 300 frames, in the core parameters, the BenQ W1050 and W1120 maintain a consistent level. The difference between the price of 1,000 yuan is mainly reflected in

l W1120 has more lateral projection, lens vertical displacement, 2D trapezoidal correction, making it more flexible in installation.

l The W1120 has twice the power of the sound, the sound preset mode for different situations.

l The W1120 has been optimized for game delays, making it easier to play large-scale somatosensory games.

In terms of the picture quality that people are more concerned about, the BenQ W1050 is basically the same as the W1120, and the tuning style is very similar. It can be said that compared to the W1120, the W1050 at this price point is even more affordable.
