Microchip Introduces World's First 2D Multi-Touch and 3D Gesture Development Platform

Microchip Technology Inc., the world's leading provider of integrated solutions for integrated microcontrollers, mixed-signal, analog devices and flash memory, today announced the world's first development platform for 2D multi-touch and 3D gestures— —3DTouchPad's new PC peripherals further expand the product line of its HMI input sensing solutions.

3DTouchPad adds free-space gesture recognition for projected capacitive multi-touch, giving a new definition of input sensing, making it an attractive development platform and reference design. The 3DTouchPad is the first development platform to focus on the 2D multi-touch capability and 3D aerial gesture-sensing input for the PC/peripheral market, using Microchip GesTIC® technology capable of detecting 3D gestures in the 10 cm range, and supporting up to 10 Microchip's high-sensitivity projected capacitive 2D multi-touch solution with touch points and multi-finger plane gestures provides powerful, innovative 3D gesture recognition. Microchip's new capacitive touchscreen driver MTCH652, released on October 8, significantly improves 2D multi-touch performance.

3D Touch Pad

The new 3DTouchpad can be used without a driver for Windows® 7/8.X and OS X® systems, providing 3D aerial gesture sensing, advanced multi-touch capabilities including flat gestures, and a free download for developers. GUI and SDK/API packages. The technology is also expected to expand into applications beyond the PC market and computer touch panels, such as contactless bathroom products, home automation products, remote controls, game controllers, wearables and automotive applications.
