As early as a year ago, Dave Ranyard, a 17-year veteran of Sony, chose to leave and enter the virtual reality field to start a business. Leonard said that leaving Sony is a difficult decision, but he did not want to miss the opportunity of virtual reality.
Now, Leonard has formed a new studio dedicated to virtual reality development called Dream Reality Interactive. Leonard was the former head of Sony London Studios. This time he did not set up the company alone. It is understood that other co-founders include Richard Bates, formerly Sony Studio London, Artemis Tsouflidou, Albert Bentall, and John Foster, all of whom are members of the PSVR game PlayStation VR Worlds development team.
Dream Reality Interactive said that they are already working on the development of several projects and prototypes. In addition to building their own IP, they also collaborate with other IP owners to develop content.
Leonard said: "With the launch of a series of VR headlines, the question is no longer whether or not VR will be successful," but "when it will be successful." And, most importantly, "how is it achieved?" I don't know the answer, but after working at Sony for 17 years, we feel it's time to explore the possibilities. To be independent allows me to target all the different platforms, which is very free."
In the last 9 years of last year, Sony Entertainment announced that it would make major layoffs to London studios in the weeks leading up to the completion of the development of PlayStation VR Worlds.
