Intel's low-power CPU competes for the mobile market

Intel has released Atom, a low-power mobile chip. The launch of the low-power version of the Xeon processor reflects Intel CEO Brian Krzanich's willingness to change product strategies for different markets.

Intel hopes to lead AMD and other competitors' similar products by releasing low-power processors. Patrick Moorhead, an analyst at Moor Insights & Strategy, a US market research firm, said: "Intel's plan shows the company's determination to defend its processor market share."

Diane Bryant, head of Intel's data center business, said that the Xeon Xeon high-end processor for the Broadwell architecture will be released next year.

Existing low-power chips such as mobile chips do not have the high-performance features that Intel's traditional chips have, but data centers that combine multiple low-power chips can have the advantages of high performance and low power consumption. At present, the lower-power microservers (MicroServers) have not been widely accepted by traditional enterprise customers such as banks and manufacturers. How large the market for this product is in the future is still unknown.

Intel hopes to add more features to the new chip, and the upcoming new chip is one of its plans. Intel's existing System on chips have been widely used in smart phones and tablets, but its application in data centers is not yet widespread. Intel is now starting to develop system chips for notebooks.
